What is Title I?
Title I is a federally funded program which provides support for students who are experiencing difficulty meeting the standards of their school instructional program. Title I programs are located in schools meeting specific federal guidelines. The preliminary allocation for the Monadnock Title I program for 2021-2022 is $500,104.65. Three Monadnock Regional elementary schools, Emerson School, Troy School, and Cutler School operate as schoolwide programs. Also, the Monadnock Regional Middle School will be operating as a targeted assistance program.
An Overview of Schoolwide Programs
A schoolwide program is a comprehensive reform strategy designed to upgrade the entire educational program in a Title I school; its primary goal is to ensure that all students, particularly those who are low-achieving, demonstrate proficient and advanced levels of achievement on state academic achievement standards.
In general, a Title I school may operate as a schoolwide program only if a minimum of 40 percent of the students in the school, or residing in the attendance area served by the school, are from low-income families. [Section 1114(a)(I) of Title I of ESEA].
Whereas Title I targeted assistance programs only provide educational services to identified individual students, schoolwide programs allow staff in schools with high concentrations of students from low-income families to redesign their entire educational program to serve all students, improving all struactures that support student learning, and combining all resources, as allowed, to achieve a common goal. Schoolwide programs maximize the impact of Title I. Adopting this strategy should result in an ongoing, comprehensive plan for school improvement that is owned by the entire school community and tailored to its unique needs.

This free program provides training and tools for parents and caregivers of children birth to age five. Resources for Families Experiencing Homelessness
If you lost your housing and now live in a shelter, motel, vehicle, camping ground, or temporary trailer; on the street; doubled-up with family or friends; or in another type of temporary or inadequate housing, you may be able to receive help for your child through a federal law called the McKinney-Vento Act. Contact Sharon Arnone, Title I Administrative Coordinator / Homeless Liaison at 357.2042 for details.
SAU 93 Procedures for Coordinating with Community Agencies Regarding Homelessness
The district's homeless liaison shall coordinate with:
- Community agencies that may come in contact with homeless families, children and youth.
- Other school districts on issues of records transfer and transportation.
- State and local housing agencies responsible for comprehensive housing affordability strategies.
The district's homeless liaison shall:
- Post these procedures on our web site.
- Send an informational letter to community agencies such as town halls, churches, libraries, etc. which will include referral information.
- Deal in a timely manner with any referrals submitted to ensure that McKinney-Vento rights are upheld.
- Maintain documentation of services provided to homeless families, children and youth.
