Mrs. Carrio's Kindergarten
The kindergarten year is a busy year of growing and learning.
During the kindergarten year students will be engaged in a wide variety of activities that will help them develop a strong foundation for future learning. We will be working on fine motor, gross motor, auditory, visual and language skills that will help them have success throughout their school careers.
Children will learn the letters of the alphabet and develop an understanding of letter/sound relationships. As these skills are developed, children will learn how to apply them as they are introduced to grade level reading materials. They will be introduced to written communication skills through drawing and inventive spelling.
In Math, children will learn about the calendar as they begin to develop an understanding of time sequence. Children will also become acquainted with numbers, number value, and number sequence. Through the use of manipulatives, children will learn about problem solving, adding and subtracting, as well as shape identification for both 2 and 3 dimensional shapes.
We use the Common Core State Standards to guide the kindergarten curriculum. The standards for all grade levels can be found on the NH Department of Education web site. http://www.education.nh.gov
