Academics
The academic
program at Troy School includes strong Music, Art, and Physical
Education Departments. Performances at Troy School are legendary
for their professionalism, color and grandeur. The curriculum we
use is based on state standards for excellence and district curriculum
goals. Teachers make every attempt to gear their subject matter
to each child's ability and needs. In addition to our low teacher
to student ratio, we have a substantial paraprofessional staff in
place to ensure that each child's individual needs are met. Special
needs children are accommodated through our special education department
and specialist services from certified speech instructors, a full
time nurse, and occupational and physical therapy professionals.
Title one services in language and a full time reading specialist
assist in meeting the language and reading needs of our students.
Troy School
has internet access in each room and a network capable of handling
up to 240 connections to the Web. We have a direct line (56K) to
our internet provider. Students in the upper grades are exposed
to video streaming, video editing, digital photography, and sophisticated
editing of digital materials.
In addition
to the standard elementary school fare, students are given opportunities
to participate in our school store, as members of the Troy Channel
58 Television crew, writers for the Cool School News, or members
of one of the many intramural teams at the school. We have a D.A.R.E.
plus program in place, an active Morale committee, and annual reading
contests to keep things lively and interesting for our children.
In addition to basketball and soccer, students in grades 4-6 can
even participate in a Junior Olympic Weightlifting program after
school.
We have a strong
volunteer program led by former principal Norm Evans replete with
ex-teachers and dedicated citizens from town. These volunteers help
confirm the community's care for its children. Consistent with these
efforts are our lunches with grandparents, fire fighter day, and
lunch with the clergy events during the year. Troy School is truly
a community center. Parenting classes are offered at night during
the year to assist our parents in their role as their child's first
teacher. Our library boasts a full computer lab and a continuously
updated collection of books, software, and specialty materials.
Students have library once a week and are instructed in keyboarding
and researching from the Web. Troy students are prepared for the
21st century!
Supervision
and evaluation of programs and staff is ongoing and thorough. Troy
School participates in the NH Statewide Assessment, utilizes California
Achievement Testing, Gates Reading Testing, and a variety of individual
assessment tools to evaluate the efficacy of its programs.
Troy students
are offered a full breakfast and lunch program. Milk or juice is
offered for snack each day.
We would welcome
the chance to invite you into our school and let you see first hand
what we offer children in the Town of Troy. Please feel free to
stop in and meet with our staff.
