Mrs. Johnson's Class

The groups working in room 4 for reading have taken the Scott-Foresman Reading Unit 4 test and are now reading in the 5th book for Grade One.  Some of

The stories are familiar, popular stories found in children’s trade books.  The children are excited about reading and I am excited to see their enthusiasm and their gains!  They love to have a time for ‘silent reading’ when they choose books to explore at their individual desks now.  They are always saying, “Look, Mrs. Johnson!  I can read this!”  It is so rewarding to me.  I place it right up among the wonders of the return of green grass and spring flowers!

We are still working hard to become familiar with numbers and their place in our world!  We are learning to use math tools:  rulers, calculators, clocks, calendars, thermometers, graphs, templates, rods and cubes, number grids, lines and manipulatives to mention a few!

************

Since we returned from the April break we have begun learning about landforms, where they are, why they are there and how we use them.  This we discuss with an emphasis on our state of New Hampshire.  We are learning the state’s symbols, too, and will be learning how to use a map.  During this time we will visit important buildings in Swanzey and talk about their service to our community.

 IMPORTANT DATES!

The First and Second Grade Music Performance will take place at MRHS AUDITORIM on May 31 at 7 p.m.

Please have your child in the high school cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. to line up before going on the stage with his/her class.

They have waited a long time and worked very hard on this.  I hope you are able to attend and enjoy it.

Friday, May 13th we will be treated to a visit from Stonewall Farm.  They will bring some animals and other demonstrations and lessons to us.  This is a wonderful program and it spares us the expense of transportation!
