Fascinating Facts From Frazier's Second Graders

WE’RE OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!

In March we started out unit of study on the solar system.  Our first task was to break down into pairs and research all nine planets.  Each pair was provided with a list of questions that they needed to find the answers for, pertaining to their planet.  Once this task was completed, they had to plan and prepare for publishing a written report reflecting all of the information they had compiled.  In addition, each pair was taught by Mrs. Stewart in our computer lab, how to create a power point presentation.  The children did such a wonderful job of learning how to prepare a power point presentation; they had to teach me the steps as I kept forgetting.  Each child also had the opportunity to paper mache their own solar system.  Each planet had to proportionate in size and placed in the correct order.

Miss B. worked with the students during the phases of the moon portion of our unit.  She taught us about the 28 day cycle of the moon, the names of each phase of the moon and how it appears to change shape.  The children were able to create their own phases of the moon book as an observation tool out of chalk and black paper.  This was a very nice conclusion to our unit as the children were watching the moon each night and discussing the following day during news.

I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who took the time out of their busy evening schedule to come and watch our power point presentations. The children were so excited about this night and even more so about getting to view the moon afterward through the telescopes.

LOLLIPOP, LOLLIPOP, OH LOLLI LOLLI, LOLLI POP

A sugary sweet thank you to all of our friends and family for supporting Room 2’s lollipop sales adventure.  The children worked, and parents too, extremely hard to raise enough funds to pay our admission to the Boston Aquarium.  Everyone did such a fabulous job, that we were even able to raise enough money to pay for Mrs. Goodrich’s class admission as well.  WAY TO GO!!!  Room 2 would also like to thank the Mt. Caesar/Cutler PTO for their generosity in paying for our coach buses, which allowed us to travel first class all the way!  It was hard to tell whether they had more fun on the bus ride to and from or at the aquarium… HA HA HA.  Unlike past experiences, this year’s classes were able to not only visit the aquarium, but also take part in the 3D IMAX Sharks as well as take a class with “Sunny,” our explorer’s guide, though rock, salt marsh and sand sea coasts.  “Sunny” let us all hold living creatures that reside in all of these areas.  The kids were fascinated by this!  We also learned that even though scallops do not like Mrs. Morris… we do!

HAVE YOU HEARD?    ROOM 2 HAS CRABS!

OK… now that I have your attention…they are hermit crabs.  Each child has fallen madly in love with their hermit crab brought all the way back as a special gift from Myrtle Beach.  We have been learning all about them in hopes of being able to take one home at the end of the year.  These are VERY LOW MAINTENANCE PETS and instructions on their care will come home with each student.  I know that you will just love this new addition to the family as much as we do.

Our Last Hurrah As Mrs. Frazier’s Second Graders

We’ll be tossin’ and turnin’,

Turnin’ and tossin’…

Tossin’ and turnin’ all night!

It’s that time…time for Frazier’s last hurrah!  Roll up your sleeping bag, pack up your pillow, grab your favorite stuffed animal, man your flashlight, tie your toothbrush around your neck and head for the wilds of Pebble Hill Road…Frazier’s Campground awaits you!  Directions to the Frazier Campground (a.k.a. Mrs. F.’s house) are attached.  We will try to survive Frazier’s final test…spending the night together in tents, outside in the wilderness with Mr. Peepers and Teo the Terror.

On Wednesday, June 22nd at 6:30p.m., the adventure begins.  Hot dogs will be roasted on an open fire…you cook your own, it’s part of the test.  S’mores will be made by you, and if you’re not fast enough at eating them, they may just end up in Mrs. F.’s or Teo’s belly!  Watermelon will be served and the seed spiting contest is sure to be a hit.  I must warn you, Mr. Frazier grew up in Gilsum, N.H., where seed spitting was considered a sport, just like baseball or soccer…he’s good!  You might want to get some practice in before Thursday night.

You will need to dress according to the weather.  We will ALL be staying outside…cool, hot, or otherwise.  Bring an extra blanket or sweatshirt.   Oh, and don’t forget a “midnight” snack to share with our “Great Big Happy Family!”

At 9:00pm the campfire stories will begin, and you all know how much Mrs. F. loves to share stories.  Favorite memories of our two years together will be shared at 10:00p.m., and a friendship circle for life will be made.  Since there will be no parents there, we may just stay up all night!  Just kidding…we’ll get at least a couple hours of sleep! J

We have volunteer drivers to help us with the morning commute to Mt. Caesar for our last day     together on Thursday—June 23rd.  While we may not look our best, we will have this happy, treasured memory.  We’ll be keeping our eye on the weather and will let you know of any last minute changes… cross your fingers!

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL IS A HALF DAY AND STUDENTS WILL BE DISMISSED AT NOON!

The memories made will be treasured forever.

Goodnight, sleep tight, and pleasant dreams to you,

Here’s a wish and a prayer ‘til every dream comes true,

And now, ‘til we meet again…

Goodnight!
