Monadnock Regional Middle School Cell Phone Possession and Use Policy

The purpose of the revision to the MRMS policy is to help teach students proper etiquette and responsibility in the use of cell phones during school hours.

Students are allowed to use cell phones before and after school only.

During school hours 7:30 – 2:17 cell phones must be turned off and put away.

Students are encouraged to place their cell phones in their locker or backpack during the school day.  The restriction on cell phone use includes lunch and activity time.  Students that violate this policy will have their cell phone confiscated and it will be held in the office.  Upon the first offense the student may pick up the cell phone at the end of the day.  A second incident will result in confiscation and a parent or guardian must pick it up.  It is the student’s responsibility to notify the parent of the confiscation.  Use of a cell phone during class (ringing, vibrating, texting, etc.) will be considered a disruption and will result in disciplinary action.  For your information:  Cell phone use in school is an issue raising great concern across the country and in our own school.  Some of the issues that come with cell phone use in school include cheating, cyber bullying, photographing of teachers or students without consent, disruption to learning and inappropriate internet use.

We recognize the importance and convenience of this format of communication for parents and students.  If cell phones are off and away messages can still be left for after school access.  Messages may also be left in the middle school office by calling 352-6575 ext. 201.  If a student is not feeling well he/she should report to the nurse, contact with the parent can be made through her office.  If a student needs to make a phone call they may get a pass to use the pay phone or use their cell phone in the middle school office or the office phone at lunch time.  We encourage students to make after school plans ahead of time to minimize the need for telephone use during the school day.
