LONG RANGE GOALS FOR ELEMENTARY LIBRARY SERVICES
Monadnock Regional School District
This document is a result of
brainstorming sessions with the teaching staff at the MRSD elementary schools
held during the fall and winter of the 2001-02 school year.
A set of common goals was
determined from the input given at the staff meetings.

COMMON GOALS |
|
FACILITY: A large enough facility to have both space for scheduled classes and
room for small groups or individual students who need to use the resources of
the library. The school library is housed near the center of the school. Shelving and furniture are at age appropriate heights and
standards. Lighting and ventilation are adequate for the facility. Storage areas are available in the library for AV materials and
equipment. The library facility is open to students and staff before and after
school. |
|
STAFF: There is a certified, teacher librarian for each school. In the larger schools (Cutler, Mt. Caesar, Emerson and Troy) this is a
full-time position. In the larger schools, an aide who can assist with library tasks so
that the teacher librarian can help students. |
|
TECHNOLOGY: The latest in computers, software and other Audiovisual equipment are
available and are properly serviced and maintained. Instruction is given to students in the use of computers and AV
equipment. Online databases are available for student and staff use. |
|
COLLECTION: The library materials budget allows the librarian to keep the
collection current and purchase new and replacement materials. Books and other resources are purchased which are age appropriate and
aligned with the curriculum. Materials are purchased that support educational programs and projects
in place in the schools. |
|
CURRICULUM: Collection development practices aligned with the curriculum. An Information Literacy curriculum that is aligned with existing
curriculums to support and reinforce what is taught in the classrooms. Resource kits, professional journals and other resources available to
teachers. |
