Third-Grade Power Standards
Writing
Students will:
- Write
simple and compound sentences (W – 3.1.1)
- Construct
a paragraph using indentation (W – 3.1.2)
- Produce
a written response to literary or informational text to show an
understanding of plot, ideas, and concepts (W – 3.2.3)
- Write
informational/expository pieces that show organization of ideas and
concepts by grouping ideas logically, using basic transition words (first,
next, then, finally), and writing a clear introduction and conclusion to
describe a procedure with materials listed, if appropriate (W – 3.3.1
& 3.3.4) (W – 3.6.1 – 3.6.4)
- Write
a narrative including a story line with a series of events and plot (W –
3.4.1)
- Use
descriptive details to develop characters (W – 3.5.1 & 3.5.3)
- Use
appropriate language conventions such as capitals, end punctuation,
commas, and grade-appropriate spelling (W – 3.9.2, 3.9.4, & 3.9.5)
- Establish
a topic, stating and maintaining a focus/controlling idea and appropriate
details (W – 3.7.1 & 3.7.2) (W – 3.8.1 - 3.8.3)
