1. Students will read strategically in a

* While all goal areas are important

a. We will begin to prioritize our math
curriculum, develop performance-based assessments in math, and come to
agreement about what each grade level will target and assess each year in
math.

development in the area of writing instruction, and encourage teachers to
integrate writing across the curriculum.
Goal area # 3 - We will schedule all
intermediate classes for computer lab time focusing on keyboarding and
accessing/sharing information. In-house staff development will be offered to
support teachers.

develop our Keene State College partnership hosting WEL program full-time
interns. We will firm up roles/responsibilities, improve communication, and
develop procedures and protocol between the college and Emerson. There will be

MRHS Science Department Goals 2002-2003
The science department
will:
1. Continue to revise and update all
science curricula on a three-year rotating basis. The curricula will be
current, relevant, and meaningful; preparing students to participate in society
as knowledgeable citizens, and to pursue a career of their choosing.
2. Develop a department assessment which
will monitor student growth and progress over the course of their high school
career (through 10th grade). Student performance checklists for each grade
level/course will be the mean meeting this goal.
3. Strive to better understand the
students as learners so to provide and utilize instructional methods that are
effective for all students.
4. Continue to implement the use of
technology as an instructional tool; including the Vernier
probes, and the internet (World Wide Web).
5. Continue to monitor and update safety
standards and policies to ensure the safety of all students, faculty, and staff.
6. Continue to develop and implement
student management procedures and policies so to maximize time on task and
student achievement.
MRHS English Department Goals
1. Work with elementary teachers to maintain
a working continuity between elementary and MRHS language arts.
2. Develop a positive attitude towards
reading in all students.
3. Develop a comprehensive checklist that
would also incorporate skills assessment for the state testing standards.
MRHS Physical Education Goals
1) Develop P.E. curriculum to meet the
needs of all students with an emphasis on building high self-esteem in the area
of fitness.
2) Implement Lifelong Fitness activities
to give students the background needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
3) Continue development of our Evaluation
and Assessment process in our Physical Education Program.
4) Effectively budget for new and updated
Physical Education Equipment to assure that all activities for students are

District K-12 Physical Education Staff, on curriculum that is well coordinated

MRHS Foreign Language Department Goals
1. Open high school Level I to more of
the advanced 8th grade students. This will allow us to continue to offer Level
V to students.

The Curriculum Guide is currently being revised by the NHTEA to correlate with the ITEA's "Standards for Technological Literacy"

our students develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills using a
range of activities such
as regular lab work, membership in extracurricular groups such as the

MRHS Business Technology Department Goals
1. To enhance the selection of department-wide
course offerings and offer them to a wider segment of the student population.
2. To increase the role of technology in
all areas of the current curriculum and update said technology as it evolves to
create new learning experiences.
3. To increase the use of authentic
assessment instruments such as: student-generated presentations, portfolios,
business simulations, cross-curriculum projects, and real life work experience
in our curriculum.
4. To increase the integration of the
business curriculum with the School-To-Work program by the use of speakers,
internships, field trips, and job shadowing opportunities, thus using the
community as your classroom. Continue to use F .B.L.A., Junior Achievement, and
other types of organizations to expose students to more of these opportunities.
5. To instill in students desired work
habits such as: punctuality, working within a group, communication skills, time
management, work ethics, good attendance, and a healthy attitude toward work in
general.

using a variety of teaching methods and assessment tools that will allow each

PERFORMING ARTS DEPARTMENT GOALS
Goal #1
To explore the
possibilities of developing a schedule to allow for team teaching in the
performing arts, i.e., music and theater.

To develop a code of conduct and
standards for students involved in the FPA extracurricular activities.
Goal #3
We need to reclaim a sense of dedication
and personal responsibility within our students so that their individual
successes will have an impact on a larger number of their peers. In order to do
this, we need to continue to explore a wider range of monitoring methods.

Develop electives that meet the needs of
students but also meet the state requirements. some
suggestions are to replace art survey with art history, add high school music
electives to help distribute the electives throughout the department.
