Lorna Watkins-Barth - Guidance Director January 30, 2012 Dear Students and Families; Quarter Two will end on January 30, 2012. Report cards will be mailed on Friday February 3rd. We have not changed the third and fourth quarter report card dates at this time in the school year. If you would like to review your son or daughters progress, you may contact myself (x128) or Sherry Page (x142) for your son or daughters grades to be emailed weekly to you through Power School. Seniors are welcome to meet with their guidance counselor by making an appointment to review their colleges, Naviance account and update their Resume' in Naviance. They have discussed their career and college choices with their counselor. Seniors planning to take a GAP year, enter the armed service and/or enter directly into their career may access guidance services after they graduate should they need help with future college and career choices. Seniors planning to attend college in the fall of 2012 need to complete their college applications and meet all admission deadlines. All Seniors requesting me to submit their college application through February 1st have been sent. Some Seniors wanted all their application materials sent by these dates and some only wanted them sent to designated colleges. It is very important (as I have explained to them) that they keep me informed of when they send their applications. They may stop in my office anytime and I will help them with their college materials. It is very important that Seniors make sure they have released their SAT and ACT scores to all their final list of colleges directly from the College Board and ACT web sites. Please have your son or daughter see me or you may call me for further explanation. Juniors have been meeting with their counselors to update their career and college files. Please encourage your son or daughter to attend these meetings. It is important for all Juniors planning on applying to four year colleges/universities to register for one of the Spring SAT or ACT test dates. NHHEAF will be presenting a Junior Parent College/Career Overview on March 22nd at 6:30pm in the library. Sophomores attended a Keene High School Cheshire Career Center presentation during their January 4th advisory. Your son or daughter registered at this time to tour the Cheshire Career Center on February 2nd. Students received a permission slip and returned this by Friday January 27th in order to attend this field trip. We noted on their permission slip what "Block" at Keene High School they will be attending these tours. We will remind them during the scheduling assembly on Wednesday February 1st during their advisory time what blocks parents/guardians agreed for them to attend for this field trip. Juniors, Sophomores and Freshman recieved the Program of Studies in their January 11th advisory. Please review this document with your son or daughter. They will attend a scheduling assembly during their February 1st advisory. Counselors will choose courses with your son or daughter for their 2012-13 schedule beginning February 2nd. Please call me if you want to discuss their course selection. Please note the following upcoming Guidance dates: This is an exciting year for our students as we celebrate the 50th year that our school opened. I look forward to working with students, parents and guardians. Please feel free to email me (lwatkins-barth@mrsd.org) or call me (352-6575 ext. 128) with any questions or concerns.
