Tom Warner: SAU Director of Technology
Tom Warner presented a brief history of the technology Plan
since its inception in 1995. It is a requirement of the State of
A brief run through of the existing draft was presented. Technology Integrators, technology mentors and teachers have had input to the plan. It will go to administrators in early June for review. Some of the questions and comments are as follows:
1. We should try to put background or reference material (such as town demographics) in appendices so the plan reads more concisely.
2. We should show detail of specific claims (such as the States formula for determining Technical support for the number and age of computers in the schools).
3. Issues of future directions:
A) Blade servers to concentrate the growing server population
B) A common platform such as “browser based” applications for digital portfolio material produced by students. This platform could allow for web publication. Research KSC’s progress in this area.
C) More security guidelines for intrusion and internal “hacking” as well as privacy protection of student information
D) Continued Investigation of the specific use of “thin client” subnets.
E) Develop a Data Retention Plan: What data, how is archived and for how long. Short term retention VS long term retention.
F) Investigate lower power consumption alternatives (such as thin client, blade servers, LCD monitors, etc)
Next Mtg tentatively planned for June 13th
