Issue 1
Discussion about 07‑08
Project list Revision #7, as compiled and presented by Ron Parent. This list
represents projects for the coming year and breaks them into two categories,
which we referred to as; 'List of Priorities" and "Unaddressed".
The items on the "List
of Priorities" consist of 5 separate categories/items.
1. Safety and Security
2. Emerson and
3. Carpeting at the high school,
4. Stair treads at
5. Tree at Wilcox
The total expenditure for
these five items is estimated at: $247, 154.56.
The "Unaddressed' items
have a total estimated cost of $105,285.00.
NOTE: The cost of each item
has been entered using the highest estimate for each item, it is recognized
that the actual cost for any item may change.
two categories, roofs in failure and in need of immediate
repair and roofs that can wait. The schools affected by roofs in need of
IMMEDIATE attention are addressed below.
MRHS
There are four areas of the
high school roof listed as, "in need of immediate attention;'. Ron Parent
explained that these areas have been tested by "Melansons"
and it is CONFIRMED that these areas of roofing re failing and that the
insulation underneath to roofing is "WRINGING" wet, not simply damp
or moist. A concern at this time is now, how long it will be, before water
damages the decking and other systems beneath the roof
With regard to the testing
process...core samples were taken and the four areas identified on the 2007
list represent the areas that were identified by and through the testing as
wet. Ron Parent explained that the "core sample" the process could
have missed other wet areas simply by taking a care sample that was dry‑when
two feet away, another sample could have been found to be wet.
Relative to all roofs
discussed herein, there are NO warranties in place‑ It
is not clear and cannot be dearly stated, when some of these roofs were
installed/repaired/replaced.
The four areas of roofing at
the MRH5 in need of immediate repair have a replacement cost estimate of,
$345.182.00. The roof areas are identified as; I) Science rooms‑hallway‑library,
2) Main entrance and Office area, 3) Roof that runs the length of lunch room to
auditorium, 4) roof next to gym and new teacher's room.
Ron Parent explained that
these roofs have not been confirmed as "wet" as described above, but,
rather, they have long history of leaking.
The areas discussed and
identified as needing immediate repair were; the "six class hallway"
on the
replacement cost and to clarify if "servicing the
bleachers" included updating all surfaces that would touch a new floor.
It was noted that it is
thought that there is approximately $45,000.00 available‑or that has been
raised through various fund raising events meant to raise money to update the
gym.
Other
Mrs. Betty Tatro, Principal, Mt Caesar, presented the committee with
the findings of a survey she conducted relative to the proposed mobile

She explained that 102 parents responded...

8 do no support the mobile classrooms
2 of the above 8 want "real additions" added
No parent expressed concern
that his or her children would have to walk outside.
