Larry went over “first run” of options for the MS/HS. Current Traffic Patterns combine bus traffic with Parent Drop Off, which is a safety hazard.

1st option. Re-align the front of the building with separate entrances for the MS and HS. The MS would be in the end of the building closest to the river and straight back toward the back of the building. The HS would be from the middle of the building straight back toward the back of the building. The gym would be expanded and there would be a centralized administration and guidance departments. For the Middle School, the trailer classrooms have reached their end of life and are not attached to the main building, requiring students to go outside in inclement weather and cross a parking lot (safety issue) and are too small according to code. Middle school needs additional P.E..Space, Separate Gym Lockers and Gym space, Middle School Learning Spaces in the Library, Labs Space and Music space, as well as a separate Middle School Assembly area.

The “M” classrooms are attached modulars which are of wood construction and severely impact code compliance negatively.

Health Spaces should be consolidated and reoriented for access to both the MS and HS.

Colline pointed out that Health Space Consolidation meant reducing space, not personnel.

Larry said that’s correct.

Colline asked if the current Food Service needs to be expanded.

Larry said that’s correct. It doesn’t fit the current need and isn’t to code.

2nd Option. Orient the MS in the SE quadrant of the current construction. Orient the HS in the SW Quadrant.

Colline asked where the teacher’s room would go.

Larry said the teacher’s room would be moved over next to Guidance. This option would require 10 to 12 new classrooms.

3rd Option.     Colline asked if we need to reorient Life Skills for SPED (do we retain students from 13 to 21 years of age.

Karen said we need to check with Kathy Hurst and Judy Bischoff.

Karen asked if we need to address current fire wall issues.

Larry said one option to deal with the firewalls is to compartmentalize and work with the various agencies regarding new construction.

Larry said KB was looking at a possible parking lot over the Southeast lawn where the septic was put in. They are also looking at a possible access road coming through the Northwest corner of the property to realign for safer bus routes.

Security was also discussed.

Katie said the NHCTC is looking at requesting class space for evening courses in the Spring.

Brett gave an update on the current Project lists. They were able to get the contractor to come down to $37k for the roof vents project.

Per WV, this was a difficult project because there were a lot of trades involved and not a lot of money.

Brett received an offer from a local roofer, RJ Johnson, to help write the spec for the HS roof project.

Colline said the Board should be notified that this is in taking place.

Karen said the Facilities committee needs to have written documentation signed by the roofer that this is voluntary and in no way affects the bid process. The roofer would not be given any preferential treatment and must sign a statement indicating they understand that.

Next meeting to be set pursuant to the negotiating committee meetings.
