Minutes of Meeting of
Present: Karen Cota, Bruce Tatro, Tim Peloquin, Ron Parent, Betty Tatro, Jon Kenyon, Dr Dassau, Katie Chambers
6:02 Karen C called the meeting to order and asked Ron P what has changed with the Mt Caesar situation since the last time.
Ron P said the Fire Marshal reviewed the site and said we need 50 feet between the building and the modular. A front location won’t work. Ron passed around copies of a diagram that show a secondary and tertiary location for the modular. The secondary being behind the school directly across from the top of the “L”, the tertiary being above the top of the “L” near the soccer fields. There is a 10” Norway Maple currently in the middle of the secondary site.
Karen C said the Norway Maple is on the encroaching species list.
Karen C asked if the Library was for all grades?
Betty T said yes it was.
Karen asked the committee to consider 2 options : hiring more Aides versus hiring 2 teachers and purchasing/leasing modulars.
Betty T said hiring Aides is not desirable as they are not trained professionals and students will be lost. Benefits and salaries for 4 Aides would be approx 135 thousand dollars.
Karen C asked Betty T to confirm the classroom sizes:
1st Grade would need 6 classrooms at 17 students per class.
2nd grade would need 5 classrooms at 20 students per class.
3rd grade would need 5 classrooms at 19-20 students per class.
Karen C said 6 Aides at 210K or 1 trailer at 70 k plus 2 teachers at 190k.
Ron P said electrical plus phone would equal approx $500.
Karen C asked about skirting and grading.
Ron P said skirting would be included. Grading would be done in-house (for approx 300 to 500). Pressure treated lumber for the ramp would be approx $2000.
Karen C asked about custodians and heat costs.
Ron P said he wasn’t sure.
Tim P asked what happens if the teachers get hired but the trailer doesn’t get purchased?
Karen C said it would all be put in a separate warrant article. If that gets voted down, no help for Mt Caesar.
Tim P asked if the population will continue to rise.
Betty T said yes it would.
Karen C asked Betty T what she thought the parents would say when thy saw the trailer.
Betty T will distribute flyers to parents to gauge their response.
Karen C voiced concern that nothing pre-empt work on the High School.
Ron P has 1 bid in hand.
Karen C said we need at least 3 bids.
Katie C asked what about furnishings?
Ron P will check on furnishings.
Karen C asked what would the furnishings be?
Betty T said book cases and tables, chairs, etc.
Karen C asked for consensus from the group.
Bruce T said we need more info.
Committee agrees.
